Wine Investment
Wine is increasingly being used as a tool for investment, and since 2005 the number of professionally managed wine funds emerging on the market has increased significantly - not good news for the serious drinker but potentially useful for the speculator! Wine is regarded as a chattal in the UK and is not currently subject to Capital Gain Tax. Wine investment is a very specialised area of the market, focused around four to five dozen wines, predominately Bordeaux. Do not imagine for a moment that an investment of £200 in a case of 5th Growth Claret will yield returns beyond your wildest dreams - it won't! We have advised clients individually on wine investment portfolios and strategies, particularly since 2005, and Alex now advises an Asia-based targeted at private investors. It is important to note that wine investment is not regulated by the FSA and, as with all investments, the value of the portfolio might not always rise. If this is an area of interest, Alex would be very happy to discuss this on an individual basis with you.
