All our fine wine storage is handled by Octavian Bond in Wiltshire - custodians of more than 1.2 million cases of the world’s most valuable wines, with a total value exceeding £1 billion.
Farthinghoe administers over 20,000 cases of wine on behalf of our clients and has enjoyed an excellent relationship with Octavian for over 25 years, having been one of their very first clients. This longstanding partnership ensures our clients benefit from the highest standards of service and care.
Octavian is widely regarded across the trade as the bonded warehouse for fine wine storage in the UK — trusted for its exceptional standards in Customs & Excise compliance, physical storage conditions, security, administration, and delivery & logistics.
Storage Fees
Our storage fees are invoiced annually in arrears (typically in December). Charges are calculated per case.
Standard Rates (Ex. VAT):
- Per 12-bottle case (9L): £15.85 per year
- Per 6-bottle case (4.5L): £7.93 per year
Volume Discounts:
We offer reduced rates for larger portfolios:
- >50 Cases (approx. 450L): £15.35 (12x75cl) / £7.68 (6x75cl)
- >100 Cases (approx. 900L): £15.10 (12x75cl) / £7.55 (6x75cl)
Physical Conditions & Security
Spanning the size of 20 football pitches, the Octavian facility is a vast network of underground galleries originally carved out as a limestone mine for Bath stone. Located some 100 feet below ground, it offers ideal natural conditions for storing fine wine.
A multi-million-pound temperature and humidity control system ensures the environment is kept at a consistent 13.5–14°C year-round, with humidity maintained at around 75% — conditions proven to preserve wine at its best.
There are only two points of access to Octavian, both via steep tunnels. Security is paramount, with strictly regulated access and comprehensive controls in place throughout.
Customs & Excise
The warehouse is recognised by UK Customs & Excise as a ‘Best Practice’ operation, with a reputation that is truly second to none - a key consideration for clients storing high-value wine over the long term.
Any stock stored “In Bond” at Octavian is not subject to UK Duty or VAT unless it is cleared for domestic use.
Administration & Delivery
Octavian uses highly sophisticated stock control systems, recently enhanced to give trade clients fully interactive online access to all key stock movements — updated daily.

Insurance Coverage
Standard Insurance: Your storage fee includes "All Risks" insurance coverage at full replacement/market value. This covers typical risks such as breakage, theft, or loss.
High-Value Items: If you possess individual bottles or cases with a value exceeding £8,000, please notify us. These items may require additional insurance arrangements and premium coverage to ensure they are fully protected against total loss.
