J. M. Boillot, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Champ Canet 2019

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has a slightly smudged, quite honeyed bouquet, and lacks the delineation of its peers. The aromatics imply a picking a day or two tardy, rendering it almost Sauternes-like in style. The palate is well balanced with fine density and notes of quince, white peaches and a subtle peppery element. Turning linear toward the finish, it finally brushes off the excessive richness displayed by the aromatics. This is a fine offering now, but is it suited for the long-term?
