The 2011 Gattinara Tre Vigne is an unusually ripe, generous Gattinara, a combination of the vintage and also the style of this bottling. Macerated cherry, leather, spice, menthol and licorice are nicely pushed forward. Cream and layered in the glass, the 2011 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years, even if it doesn't have the nerve that is such a signature of the best wines of the appellation.
