Domaine Launay-Horiot has become one of Pommard’s most compelling domaines, blending centuries of heritage with a renewed sense of precision. Xavier Horiot has revitalised the estate with a meticulous approach to vineyard work and a focus on purity of fruit, bringing a fresh energy to these historic holdings. His attention to detail is evident in the brightness and definition that run through the wines.
The wines show dark fruit and composed structure, with a lifted finish that lends elegance to their underlying power. Launay-Horiot is a compelling choice for those who favour precision alongside Pommard’s muscular frame.
Behind Domaine Launay Horiot lies a long Pommard lineage that almost slipped away. For generations the Launay family farmed vines in the village, but complicated inheritance issues in the late twentieth century left the estate in limbo. It was only in the early 2010s, after a protracted legal process, that descendant Xavier Horiot finally regained control of the vineyards. Once the domaine was back in his hands, he set about a thorough revitalisation, replanting where necessary and tightening up both farming and winemaking. The turnaround has been striking, turning a sleeping family property into one of Pommard’s most talked about modern domaines while keeping its deep roots intact.
