Domaine Taupenot-Merme sits at the crossroads of Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, crafting wines that combine classical structure with a modern sense of clarity. Romain Taupenot pursues organic farming and a thoughtful, low-intervention style in the cellar, allowing the nuances of each site to guide his decisions. His wines show admirable precision and purity.
The reds show focus and lift, with pure fruit and fine structure that reveal each site’s personality. Thoughtful and refined, Taupenot-Merme consistently delivers Burgundy with definition and a lovely, understated confidence.
The history of Taupenot Merme is really the story of two winegrowing families whose paths eventually converged. Both the Taupenots and the Mermes had deep roots in the Côte de Nuits, particularly around Morey Saint Denis and Gevrey Chambertin, and in the mid twentieth century a marriage brought their vineyards together into a single estate. For decades the domaine worked quietly in a classical mould, its wines known to a loyal following. The arrival of Romain Taupenot marked a gentle change of tempo, as he introduced organic farming and a more restrained hand in the cellar. The estate today feels firmly anchored in its past, yet its voice has never been clearer.
