Domaine Henri Magnien is a rising star of Gevrey-Chambertin, blending family tradition with a dynamic, forward-looking approach. Charles Magnien works with great sensitivity, aiming to highlight finesse and brightness in a region often associated with power. His dedication to detail - from careful vineyard management to measured extraction - brings a lovely clarity to the wines.
The style here is lifted and expressive. Silky tannins, pure red fruit and a gentle mineral thread define the domaine’s character, offering Gevrey with elegance and vibrancy. The wines feel harmonious and charming, making Henri Magnien a name to watch for those seeking finesse-driven expressions of the village.
The Magnien family have been working the vineyards of Gevrey Chambertin since the mid seventeenth century, although for much of that time their name was known more to merchants than to drinkers. The twentieth century saw the gradual consolidation of various family parcels into what is now Domaine Henri Magnien, with important sites such as Les Champeaux and Lavaut Saint Jacques forming the backbone. When Charles Magnien took over, he brought fresh energy and an eye for finesse, subtly adjusting both viticulture and winemaking to draw out a lighter, more detailed side of Gevrey. His tenure feels like a new chapter in a very old book, one that keeps the family’s roots firmly in view.
